The Blowhole (Souffleur) is a dynamic reef site shaped by surge-driven openings and rocky overhangs. Waves push air and water through the cavities, creating the characteristic “blowhole” effect that gives the site its name.
The mix of caverns, overhangs and lively reef life makes this an engaging dive for confident divers who enjoy natural formations and a bit of movement in the water.

A Rocky Reef Sculpted by Surge
The Blowhole is defined by its rugged structure: rocky ledges, small caverns and openings where the surge breathes in and out. These features create shifting patterns of light and sound, giving the site a distinctive atmosphere. The formations are wide and naturally lit, offering safe and enjoyable swim-throughs for divers with good buoyancy control.
Depth and Conditions Around the Blowhole
The site typically ranges from 15 to 22 m, with the main features located along a sloping reef. Surge is common, especially near the openings, adding a sense of movement without making the dive technical. Visibility is often excellent thanks to its offshore position near Coin de Mire.
Reef Life in the Caverns and Overhangs
The sheltered spaces attract soldierfish, squirrelfish and small groupers, while the outer reef hosts snappers, fusiliers and the occasional trevally passing through the blue. Moray eels, scorpionfish and nudibranchs can be found among the rocks, rewarding divers who take time to look closely.
A Dive for Confident, Curious Explorers
The Blowhole is best suited to divers comfortable with moderate surge and overhead environments. The site offers a blend of structure, marine life and atmosphere that makes it a memorable dive for those seeking something more dynamic than a simple reef.
