Exceptional Clarity and Deep-Water Atmosphere
Because of its significant depth, the water here is often exceptionally clear, providing a high-contrast backdrop for the rugged volcanic cliffs and deep-sea gorgonians that cling to the rock faces. It is a place of quiet intensity, where the "open blue" meets the dark, structured reef, requiring precise buoyancy and gas management.
Specialized Marine Life and the Famous Moray Congregation
The marine life at Star Cliff is as specialized as the dive itself, often hosting species rarely seen on shallower reefs. The site is famously nicknamed the "Council Flat of Moray Eels" due to the incredible density of various moray species congregating within the wall's crevices. Divers can also spot rare Indian butterflyfish, large Harlequin groupers, and schools of patrolling jacks or tuna in the surrounding blue water.
For Certified Deep Divers Only
For those with the proper certification, such as PADI Deep Diver or CMAS 3-star, Star Cliff offers a unique opportunity to explore the more mysterious, less-visited depths of the Mauritian shelf.
