The natural pass funnels water between the lagoon and the open sea, attracting pelagic species and creating dynamic conditions that make La Passe a rewarding dive for experienced divers.

A Deep Outer‑Reef Channel
La Passe is formed by a natural opening in the outer reef, creating a wide channel bordered by coral ridges and sandy slopes. The structure provides excellent visibility and a sense of depth and scale.
A 35‑Meter Advanced Profile
With depths around 30–35 m, the site requires good buoyancy control and comfort with mild to moderate current. The deeper sections offer dramatic views of the reef walls and the blue water beyond.
Pelagic Activity
The water movement through the pass attracts trevallies, tunas, barracudas and other pelagic species. Schools of fusiliers and snappers gather along the ridges, adding movement and colour.
Clear Water and Strong Relief
The south‑east coast often provides excellent visibility, highlighting the contours of the channel and the coral formations. Light entering from the open ocean creates a striking atmosphere.
A Dive for Advanced Divers
La Passe is best suited for advanced divers comfortable with deeper profiles and current. Its combination of depth, structure and pelagic life makes it one of the signature dives of the Mahébourg area.
